Understanding MLM Matrix Plans

If you are already involved in, or are contemplating a business using network marketing or multi-level marketing (MLM) as your marketing strategy, the better you understand it, the wiser and more successful you will be.

Network marketing companies select a certain type of compensation plan for different reasons. In this article I want to give an overview of the “matrix.”

What distinguishes the matrix compensation plan from other plans? It is a limited width plan. The width generally ranges from 2 to 5 people on the distributor’s first level. As more people enroll, they go under those first level people. If, for example, there were 3 first-level people, there could be 9 people on the second level, and 27 people on the third level, etc. Thus, an organization could conceivably grow into hundreds, or even thousands of people. The company promoting the products or services will determine how many levels deep they will pay. The company will pay you a certain percentage of the product purchases for each person in your downline. If you have a downline of only a few people, your bonus check will not be very big. If you grow into hundreds or thousands of people under you, then you will be paid a lot more.

A matrix plan allows for “spillover.” Spillover occurs when someone not enrolled by you is placed in your downline, and thus, has “spilled over.” This can be a neat, exciting thing to happen to a new distributor. It should never be counted on as the primary means to build a downline. In fact, probably the majority of people in a matix plan will never receive “spillover” from their upline. To be a beneficiary of “spillover” you have to be in the right place, under an upline member who is doing quite a bit of recruiting. However, it can be a very helpful thing to someone who is serious about building an organization.

The biggest drawback to a matrix plan and “spillover” is that often it attracts the lazy type of person who doesn’t want to work. So, you have a bunch of people joining just looking for their “spillover.”

While the matrix compensation plan is used by only about 9% of MLM companies, it generally is very attractive to people who can just work their MLM business on a part-time basis. The low monthly volume usually required helps it to be a workable plan for both part-timers and the non-sales types. Thus, in spite of some disadvantages to the matrix, people who are willing to do some work are likely to find that success is truly within their reach!

Three Ways to Re-invest in Your Business for Maximum Profit

If you are not re-investing your profits in your business, you are killing your business. Your profits should be put back in your business for growth, not buying your groceries.

Granted, you need to eat, but if you have started a part-time business, and you have another source of income, you need to re-invest most of your profits back into your business. Re-invest for growth. When your business grows, then you can start taking a profit.

Marketing expert Jeffery Fox calls this “paying steak and eating hot dogs.” The concept is simple: keep your expenses low, but don’t cut costs. Here are 3 ways you can re-invest in your business for growth:

1. Re-invest at least 40% of every dollar you earn in advertising and marketing.

You might think that you deserve to spend your profits, as a return-on-investment. You are right! But if you want your business to grow, you must re-invest in the business. For example, perhaps you spend $100 a month on leads for your business opportunity. These leads result in $200 in new sales. Instead of taking the $100 profit and spending it, what if you re-invested it, and bought $200 worth of leads for your business? You could end up with $400 in new sales the next month. Re-investing your profits this way can grow your bottom line, but you must be patient in the meantime.

2. Re-invest by helping your downline grow their downlines.

If you are in a downline program such as a network marketing program where you receive residual and leveraged income, you can re-invest by spending time helping members of your downline grow and improve their businesses. This will take more time than money, and as they improve, you will see a direct result on your bottom line. Call or email someone in your downline and ask how you can help them grow their business.

3. Re-invest by improving your communications materials.

Instead of re-investing in more advertising, re-invest by improving your website, your business card, your autoresponder series, or your brochure. Think conversion rate optimization.  Maybe a simple cosmetic improvement on your website will increase your conversion rate. Hire a copywriter to write your sales letter, or a graphic artist to design a logo.

These are 3 ways you can re-invest in your business. Re-investment will speed growth and ultimately make your business even more profitable.

The “Why” Factor In Network Marketing Success

In the popular Reality TV show, “Fear Factor”, contestants recruited from across the USA compete in both physically and mentally challenging stunts for the grand prize of $50,000. These brave hearts dive through underwater mazes, jump from helicopters, and eat the most disgusting dishes served up with maggots, rotting cheese, pig’s eyes and such. The natural question that comes to you as the viewer is, “Would I do that for $50,000?”

In fact, many contestants walk away from a chance to win the final prize out of sheer fear or disgust at the challenges. Yet the lucky winner often walks away with just a few bruises and an upset stomach but $50,000 richer than before.

The viewers get a peek into the mindset of the contestant through the answers given to the host’s questions about why they wanted to be on the show. Many times it’s just for the money-no surprises there- but other times there are ‘more noble’ reasons such as to get out of debt, pay for a child’s college, or prove to other family members their stoicism.

When preparing for a stunt and during the performance itself, the host will often shout to the contestants a reminder of the prize they are working towards and their reasons for being there. This often proves a great motivator for some contestants who were about to give up.

This may just be Reality TV but there are many lessons here that can be applied to having a successful Network Marketing career. Just from viewing a few episodes of “Fear Factor” it becomes obvious that there are many contestants who entered just for the chance to be on television. Elimination at the first round is inconsequential because they would have accomplished their ‘dream’. In the same way, there are many people who join a MLM opportunity just for the fun of it. They have no set goals, plans or burning desire to succeed. This is a sure recipe for failure.

Your chances for success in Network Marketing are only as strong as your “why”. When faced with the challenging moments it’s your “why” that will keep you going.

Even though money is a great motivator I can boldly suggest that it’s not enough. Just think about it: we don’t really need more money just what that money affords us. In fact, the most important things in life-family, health, love, freedom-can’t really be bought. There is many a rich man who would pay his entire fortune to regain his health sacrificed to gain his wealth.

At the same, time there are many people who continue working into their retirement years because they enjoy the work even more than the monetary reward. Money is a lot, but it’s not all.

Here is where goal setting becomes paramount because your goal is intimately attached to your reason for doing the business. If your ‘reason why’ is to get your kids through college then your goal will be proportionate to that reason. When obstacles get in your way then these setbacks are measured against your ultimate goal and your priority will become apparent in whichever wins: your goal or the temporary setback.

Many people approach network marketing with a lottery mentality. They hope that their investment will luckily pay off in some grand stroke of luck. But no business works that way. A good sponsor versus a recruiter understands their people’s “why” and can use it to help them achieve focus and a long term plan. A strong “why” becomes like an anchor that sees network marketers through the highs and lows of doing the business. As Winston Churchill said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm”.

We are often charmed and inspired by the ‘rag to riches’ story of people who overcame great odds and abject poverty to become very wealthy. What drove these people to financial success were not so much the prospects of wealth but the disgust with poverty. They hated their situation and they converted this hatred into a positive force that motivated them to take action. There was no looking back because they were too familiar with what was behind them.

History is replete with stories of people who overcame great odds to excel in their fields. Only recently, Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France for the seventh consecutive time despite his battle with cancer. Did you know that Beethoven was deaf and John Milton was blind?

A classical example of the results of having an unconquerable “why” is found in the life of one of greatest presidents of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. He failed as a business man, a farmer and in his first attempt to obtain political office. When elected to the legislature he failed when he sought the office of speaker. He failed in his first attempt to go to Congress. He failed when he sought the appointment to the United States Land Office. He failed when he ran for the United States Senate and failed when friends sought for him the nomination for the Vice-Presidency in 1856. But he was finally elected president in 1860.

Passionate desire and a strong will to succeed in spite of obstacles are far more important than raw talent. In network marketing it’s not the gifted leader or speaker that reaches the pinnacle of success but ordinary people with extra-ordinary “whys,” they MUST succeed.

Unlike in the “Fear Factor” TV show, to succeed in your own business you won’t have to jump out of moving helicopters, eat beetles and slugs or walk a tight rope stretched between thirty-story buildings, but you must possess the same passion of a $50,000 winner. The great thing about Network Marketing is that there is room for more than just one winner … and $50,000 is a joke when you really consider the number of millionaires this industry has produced.

So how strong is your “why”? Your answer to this simple question will determine your success in this home business venture more than any other single factor.

The Three Primary Strengths Of Network Marketing

Network Marketing, Direct Sales, ‘MLM’, and Multi Level Marketing are all terms
that refer to the same type of business model. This industry has
had more than it’s share of scumbag crooks and con artists that
have used and abused the concept. However, if you do your
homework and get involved with a legitimate network marketing
organization, this business model has exceptional income
potential.

Network Marketing can produce outstanding results if you know a
few simple concepts, the understanding of which is critical to
your success.

Network Marketing, Direct Sales, MLM, and Multilevel Marketing are unlike
franchises or conventional businesses in that they take advantage
of all three of the important, yet misunderstood principles of:

1) Leverage (of Time and Money)
2) Residual Income
3) Geometric Growth Through Duplication

Unfortunately these principles are not well understood by many of
the people that undertake network marketing. And that’s just one
of many reasons why so many fail at network marketing. There are
lots of other reasons, and it would take volumes to cover them
all. But this is one of the more common ones. Because if you
don’t comprehend and believe in these principles, it’s impossible
to help others fully understand and appreciate them.

First, lets look at LEVERAGE:

Every successful person or business takes advantage of leverage.
There are only 24 hours in a day and no matter how talented you
are or how much you get paid per hour, if you don’t take
advantage of leverage you’re limited by the number of hours in a
day. As a side note, I have heard of cases where an occasional
lawyer was billing more than 24 hours per day…but, I guess
that’s another story. By learning to leverage your time, you can
also benefit from a percentage of other people’s efforts, and
dramatically increase your income while creating more free time
for yourself.

The unique and wonderful thing about the Network Marketing
business model is that everyone has the same opportunity to
become the ‘owner’ of his or her own business – with a fraction
of the investment of time and money of a franchise or traditional
business.

In network marketing the people at the top definitely have a
vested interest in helping others on their team succeed.

Would you rather receive 100% of one person’s efforts, or 5% of
the efforts of 100 people?

Obviously 100% of one is always only ONE. But 5% of 100 is FIVE.

Not only will the total result with leverage almost always be
amplified, but your income is not dependent on only one person.
If your income is produced by the activities of many, it is much
more dependable. Even if something unexpected or negative happens
to one or more of those people, it only has a minor effect on the
TOTAL production.

It’s great to get paid while you’re sleeping or away on vacation.
That’s one of the many advantages of leveraging your time.

Now, lets consider RESIDUAL INCOME:

When someone mentions residual income many people automatically
think of actors or musicians.

Residual income is recurring income that you continue to receive
long after the work you’ve done to produce it has ended. There
are lots of ways to produce residual income. However, many
people don’t understand it, and still others have never thought
about or been exposed to it.

A very simple example of residual income is interest earned on
money in the bank or investments. You continue to receive this
income without having to invest any more time to produce it.

Suppose you had the choice of doing a job and earning $1,000
once, or getting paid $50/month for the rest of your life…which
would you choose? If you chose the $50/month you obviously “get”
the concept of residual income.

Clearly, $50/month will surpass a single payment of $1,000
relatively quickly. And if it lasts for a few years, or better
yet – the rest of your life – it will really be a blessing.

Residual income is certainly not about “getting rich quickly”,
even though with the right opportunity it’s possible to produce a
substantial residual income stream in a relatively short time.

Most people who fail at network marketing either choose the wrong
network organization or just give up too soon and quit because
they expect overnight results. It is important to recognize that
the real beauty of residual income is on the back end, not the
front, and that once you build it you have the financial security
and time flexibility to do just about anything you desire for the
rest of your life!

Last, but not least, lets address GEOMETRIC GROWTH (DUPLICATION):

The classic illustration of geometric growth is the frequently
used penny-a-day example.If you save one penny on the first day,
and double it every successive day, (day two you have 2 pennies
and day three you have 4 pennies, and so on) how much will you
have at the end of 30 days?

The answer, to the astonishment of many, is $5,368,708! Amazing,
but true.

That’s a simple and dramatic illustration of how networking can
work. If I can teach you, I’ve doubled myself. If we each teach
someone else, we’ve doubled again. As this duplication or
geometric growth process goes on and on, it can produce some
amazing results in a relatively short period of time, just like
the penny example above.

So there you have it, understand and apply these three principles

1) Leverage (of Time and Money)
2) Residual Income
3) Geometric Growth Through Duplication

and, given sufficient time and effort, you should enjoy a
successful and financially rewarding network marketing
experience.

Team Leadership: Just Remember To Pull Them, Don’t Push Them

This is primarily directed toward people who work at home
in a business that happens to involve network marketing.

I am often contacted by members of my business team with
complaints regarding a lack of response or lack of action on the
part of their affiliates. Their complaints typically go
something like…”I send out lots of emails to all of them and I
very rarely get any response and it seems like very few of them
are taking any action. What am I doing wrong?”.

There are many types of internet-based home businesses where
feedback and interaction are quite important and getting an
affiliate or business team member to communicate with you is a
definite objective. It’s not at all surprising that this can be
a challenge when you stop to think that what you are trying to do
is initiate a dialog between two complete strangers who have
never even seen each other.

In the case of network marketing, it is of critical importance to
build a sense of trust with your team members. Network marketing
is very definitely a relationship business and each relationship
typically starts out with two complete strangers sitting at their
respective keyboards.

The team building aspect of network marketing is of vital
importance to the success of each individual member and to the
team as a whole. Two key elements of team building are trust and
confidence and these factors play a very large role, particularly
for new team members.

With all that being said, many people love the IDEA of making good
money working at home in their own business and expect it to just
“happen”, but have no willingness to take any action or put forth
any effort to make it happen.

Having been involved with team building and network marketing for
some time, I have come to adopt the following as my operating
credo…”if you have the desire and are willing to put in the
effort, I’ll pull you along so you can go faster down the road to
success, but if you don’t want move on your own, I’m not
going to waste my time trying to push you forward”.

Its like working with a length of chain…pulling it along works
fine, but trying it push it forward only results in a pile of
frustration.

You need to be able to distinguish between people that have a
legitimate interest in developing a home based business and
those lost souls that feel that they have just joined another
chat group and only want to engage in an endless “debate” about
the virtues of whatever business you are promoting, but never
actually had any intention of establishing a business…you will
have to develop your own method of reading people like this (its
mainly a sense of feel…sort of a belly button thing).

You can help someone reach for success…but you can’t
reasonably expect to make them want to be successful. Its just
another variation of that very old and tired cliche…that “you
can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”.

Another way of looking at it is if you are trying to move people
forward, you pull them from in front (a leadership position), but
if you have to push them it will be from behind (not a position
of leadership).

Can you use hypnotic language to sell more products?

As I become more successful with my internet business I have become interested in ways to move my business to the next level.

Besides pumping more money into advertising it occured to me that increasing my closing percentage on my websites to the visitors I am getting would be a free way to make more money without spending more money to do it.

Writing better copy in my ads and on my websites itself surely would help me reach this goal.

I know in off-line sales that it is not only what you say, but how you say it. To achieve the same results without the benefit of voice inflection will require getting my prospective customer into an almost hypnotic state of mind.

First let’s define what an hypnotic state of mind is.

“A trance like state in which a person responds readily to suggestions. Attracting and holding an interest as if by a spell.”

O.K. But how do I do that?

If you can tell your readers what they are probably thinking, feeling or doing as they read your ad copy their thoughts will usually trigger their own subconscious mind to bring out these feelings or actions.

O.K. How do you do that?

One way is to add hypnotic sentences into any ad copy. You may have to change one or two words so it relates more to the product or service you’re selling.

Here are 10 hypnotic like sentences that you can use to get your prospect more into a buying mood.

If after reading these you feel the urge to go and buy something make sure to look me up!

Just kidding. O.K. here are the 10 hypnotic sentences.

1. As you’re scanning over this ad copy, you are beginning to imagine using our product and enjoying all the benefits it brings.

2. After you read this short ad you will feel like your problems are almost completely solved, all you will have to do is order.

3. As you’re skimming through this, you’re beginning to think you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying out our product.

4. The more you understand just how valuable our product could be to your life, the less you think about delaying this important purchase.

5. As you keep reading this ad copy you are feeling more and more compelled to experience all the benefits of our product.

6. As every word you read on our website you start to understand just how much our product could benefit your life.

7. The more you keep reading the more you feel it would be a waste to let this opportunity slip by.

8. You don’t know it yet but, at the conclusion of this ad, you will feel driven to order and experience all the benefits of our product.

9. The more you review our website the more you begin to find yourself getting very excited about our product and starting to feel the urge to buy now.

10. You don’t realize it yet but, in a few short minutes you’ll realize that you can’t put off this vital purchase and then you’ll be yanking out your credit card.

Does this stuff actually work? The only way to know for sure is to give it a try in your ad copy and on your website pages.

If people really do start breaking out their credit card more often or even a few extra times then it is worth the effort to learn how to use hypnotic sentences to sell more of your products.

True or False: You CAN Make Money While You Sleep

It’s a crying shame really. So many people have tried to follow the Internet dream. They’ve heard the stories of others who quit their day jobs, wake up whenever they choose, take leisurely lunches with friends, shop for hours on end without one worry about how to pay for their purchases, buy new cars and pay cash for them, and make money hand over fist while they sleep. Naturally, these people would drool over the thought of being able to do the same for themselves.

However, as the landslide of people all across the globe began to flock to the ‘Net much like they did to California in the gold-rush days, they find that making money while you sleep might be a myth. They wonder if they’ve just been led astray by wicked, evil people with nothing better to do than make fools out of innocent, hardworking folks.

What is the answer? Can you make money online? CAN you make money while you sleep? I don’t mean an extra $200 a month to pay for groceries, but a real living. If so, how do you go about it?

It’s True! We’re doing it ourselves!

First of all, it’s not a myth. I can honestly tell you that I am making a full-time living online. And yes, there have been many mornings where I’ve awakened, turned on my computer, and found notifications of sales that occurred during the night. I AM making money while I sleep, and you can, too.

Let me tell you what I think probably happened to generate this long-standing myth.

The early Internet pioneers discovered ways to make automated income. They realized this was a wonderful thing and began to spread the news to everyone they knew. Then, however, those unscrupulous types (you know… the jerks) saw this as an easy way to make a fast buck. They began preaching that making automated income online was as easy as pouring yourself a glass of water. In essence, they told half the story. As more and more people tried to make a living online and failed, the promise of making money while you sleep became fiction instead of fact.

So How Do You Do It?

What’s the real truth? How can you make a full-time living online just like us? There are several ways. Let me give you the unvarnished gospel when it comes to online business. You may not like what you hear, but it is fact, not fluff.

ACTION STEP 1


Plan, Plan, Plan – It won’t happen overnight. Nothing good ever does. In the beginning, you’re going to create a plan then be ready to work that plan. You often hear about throwing up a website and making money while you sleep. Technically, yes, that’s all there is to it. But… how does that site get up on the ‘Net?

You have to create your site or have someone else create it. That means you have to take the time to learn professional website development, or you have to pay someone who already knows how to create websites. And what will you have on your site? Your own products? (Having your own e-products is highly recommended.) Someone else’s products? You’ll need to decide before your site is created.

How will people pay for the products they buy from your site? Do you have a merchant account? Will you become an affiliate for someone else so you don’t need a payment system?

Will you go for high search engine rankings or rely on word-of-mouth, PPC ads, and other types of paid advertising? If you want good search engine optimization, you’ll have to plan for that upfront. Again, you’ll have to take time to learn how to do it or pay someone else who already knows how.

Before you take one more step toward launching your own Web business, find the answers to the questions above.

ACTION STEP 2
Be Ready to Work – Once your site is ready to launch, how will people find you? How, exactly, will you drive qualified visitors to your site? Will you use organic (free) search engine listings? Will you use Pay-Per-Click search engine ads? Will you buy ezine ads? Do you have other means for getting customers to visit your site? People won’t just come out of the blue, you’ll have to bring them to your site somehow.

Even if you choose to go for the organic search engine listings, you’ll have about a 4-week to 4-month wait before seeing your new site listed. What will you do in the meantime to drum up business?

How Will You Keep It Going? – Prosperous businesses are continually growing to keep up with customer demands. How will you keep your online business moving forward? Will you do research into what consumers want? Will you guess? Will you just follow the crowd?

You’ll want to have some method for gauging customer responses so you can know what your site visitors want and how to provide it for them.

One such way is to use Survey Monkey (http://www.surveymonkey.com). You can create online surveys in order to keep up with the needs/wants of your site visitors.

Service Is Key! - In order to make it in the long run, you simply must provide exceptional customer service to your clients. Those who lie, steal, cheat, or hide are destined to fail.

Understand this: Your success depends on your customers’ success. If they aren’t happy, you won’t be in business long. Make every effort to treat them as the kings and queens they are.

See? The people who turned the “make money while you sleep” fact into fiction did so because they skipped all the important information. Now that you know what to expect, you can see that it is most definitely possible to make a full-time living online. It is even possible to make money while you sleep. However, you must have a plan, be ready to work, look for ways to keep your business growing, and treat your customers as true V.I.P.s.

When you do, you’ll have all the tools you need to develop a long-standing business that – with time – will produce for you.
