Below are 7 “light bulb moments” that allowed me to create a six-figure income this year in online business.

#1)  It dawned on me that if I didn’t set my own schedule, someone else would set it for me.

The idea of a boss over my life never felt right.  It felt claustrophobic.  Thus I determined no matter what, I was going to succeed in a home-based business if it killed me.

#2)  It dawned on me quickly that I would rather chew my face off than call generic leads.  So I decided to create my own leads.

My first effort was a 4 line Newspaper Ad : “Millionaire Minds: What’s the Secret to earning $1K in less than an hour?” People called and listened to a 3 minute voice message.  And guess what?  People started buying my products.

#3)  It also dawned on me after that to create leads on the internet.  Small problem:  I only knew how to do em@il.  So I painfully, slowly, fearfully, I figured out how to upload a website and upload a youtube video.  This was tortuous for a technophobe like me.  But remember I was going to succeed even if it killed me, so a little torture was okay.  As soon as the website went up I started to make more money.

#4)  I used Google AdWords.  I blew through $600 in 1 week because I had no clue what I was doing.  But I had a couple of ideas and they proved to put me on track for my 6-figure goal very fast.  Nothing lost.

Most online business marketers are lost in the woods of the Internet.

So if you want to get out of the woods and be an online business marketer, you better start thinking strategically! You’re probably asking, what are strategic internet marketing techniques? What are primary emotional drivers?

Let me start by telling you what it is not.

Strategic internet marketing is not buying 100,000 guaranteed hits. The money is NOT in the list. It’s in the relationship.

It is not aimlessly placing banner ads all over the internet. It is not about using free classified ads and it is certainly not about depending on surfing for traffic sites.

Write and Submit Articles – This is one of my favorite marketing techniques because it does two things for you. The first is that it builds credibility for you and your business. Second, it is a tremendous way to drive tons of targeted traffic to your site for free. You don’t have to be Hemingway, your articles just need to be informative, interesting, and it helps to provoke a desire to learn more.

Start Your Own Newsletter – This is probably the most powerful marketing tactic on the web today. Having your own list of subscribers to send a newsletter to on a regular basis is powerful! I would much rather obtain a new subscriber over a single hit to my web site. Remember this: People that subscribe to your newletter or “list” are not subscribers…they are LEADS.And even though they may not buy your stuff the first time, there’s no law that says you can’t email them again, right? Maybe they will buy your other stuff! Interesting concept.

Banner Ads – Banner ads can be extremely successful and are a very cost effective way to drive traffic to your site. You often buy banner ads very cheaply by the thousands. The most effective banner ads are text rather than graphics. Write a compelling ad that forces them to click, and this technique can provide you lots of sales.

Viral Marketing – Give something away that people can hardly use and put links to your web site in it. Information is a powerful tool in marketing. Allow them to share it with their friends and family. Before you know, you will be getting a stampede of traffic to your site. You need to make sure that your pages are fully optimized for the search engines. The cheapest and most targeted traffic you can receive still comes from high search engine rankings!
